| Here are three shots I took last summer in Dublin, Ireland. They are of a Traveller's horse sale, taking place in the shadow of the Jameson Distillery in a section of Dublin called Smithfield. It is an amazing sight - as authentic Ireland as you will find. Old men still seal a deal with the slapping of the hands, and while watching, you are forced to dodge the little red headed blue eyed insane riders, as they gallop around on their either tiny or enormous horses. The Tinker breed (often called Irish Gypsy horses, among others) are really cool - paint drafts, lots of blue eyes, calm, strong. I saw many severely obese horses as well as abuse cases that would make you cringe. These sales are the first Sunday of every month, and were my favorite day to look forward to while I was there. | |
